Man panhandles from patrons of Starbucks, per report

36-year-old Brian Holmes was charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated criminal trespass, and resisting official detention after threatening Starbucks employees and refusing to comply with officer’s demands.

On November 23rd, Memphis Police Officers responded to a disturbance call at the Starbucks at 1420 Union Avenue, where they made contact with the manager, Christian Ryder. According to the affidavit, Brian Holmes was denied service after panhandling and making threats to store employees.

Due to Brian’s behavior, store employees closed the store for everyone’s safety. Officer Lowrie then attempted to detain him, but he refused to leave the store. Brian began to pull away and threw an object at Officer Lowrie. He was sprayed in the face with pepper spray multiple times before officers were able to take him into custody.

Brian Holmes was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated criminal trespass, and resisting official detention. He is currently being held without bond pending a mental evaluation.
