Pinnacle Point man shoves girlfriend into dresser, kicks her out for resting before work

22-year-old Monte Scales was charged with aggravated and domestic assault after reportedly striking, strangling, and forcibly moving his girlfriend that was attempting to rest before going into work.

On June 7th, deputies were dispatched to 4873 Callaway Hills Dr in response to a call of aggravated assault. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with Ayanna Gough, who stated that her boyfriend struck and strangled her. Gough informed law enforcement that she and Monte Scales had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day. Gough requested Scales to supervise their child in order to rest before going into work. Gough proceeded to lay the baby down with Scales and went into her room to lay down.

Scales entered the room shortly thereafter, demanding Gough to get back up, to which she refused. Scales responded to this by allegedly saying that he would force her to get up. Gough proceeded to comply-following Scales’ threat-and was pushed into a dresser, hitting her head in the process. Officers noted that the shove caused a cut onto the head of Gough. The push from Scales resulted in a physical altercation between Gough and Scales. Gough informed law enforcement that Scales allegedly began to strangle her, leading to Gough losing consciousness.

When Gough came to her senses, Scales demanded the woman to pack her things and leave. Scales continued to strike Gough while she was obtaining her belongings. Scales’ mother, Tara, took note of the incident and attempted to separate the two parties. Scales felt as though his mother was taking the side of Gough, which resulted in him continuing to hit her. Scales then attempted to take Gough to an ATM in order to “get his money.”

While en route to the machine, Gough recognized an opportunity to escape and fled to a passing vehicle. Tammy Caldwell was informed of the incident and witnessed part of what had happened, responding to such by contacting law enforcement. Scales was identified later on and refused to provide a statement. Gough would later complete a hold harmless and lethality form.

Monte Scales was arrested and charged with aggravated and domestic assault. His bond was set at $7,500.
