20-year-old Korey Mitchell was charged with aggravated assault, reckless driving, drivers to exercise due care, evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and speeding after making an attempt on an officer’s life while trying to run from them.
On September 3rd, Deputies James and Wilson responded to an aggravated assault on Long Creed Road and Freehold Drive, and while there they observed a silver Honda Civic going 50 miles per hour (MPH) in a 30 mph zone. Deputy Wilson observed two black males in the vehicle and attempted to make a stop, but the driver, Korey Mitchell, ran the stop sign at Long Creek Road. Wilson had to step out of the road in order to avoid being hit, and Mitchell swerved the vehicle towards Wilson as if to hit him with the vehicle.
A chase ensued where authorities lost the vehicle multiple times but recovered sight of it on Germantown Road. Another attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but instead, Mitchell took the vehicle into the opposing lane on Germantown and around stopped traffic at a light. The vehicle came to a final stop at 7233 Winchester in the shopping mall. Officers made their approach and told Mitchell and his passenger to put their hands up, and both complied. A search of the vehicle yielded nothing, and Mitchell was taken into custody.
Korey Mitchell was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless driving, drivers to exercise due care, evading arrest, driving while license suspended, and speeding. His bond was set at $5,000.
