29-year-old Kendrick White was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent, driving on a suspended license, and violation of vehicle registration law after being pulled over for expired tags and officers discovering his suspended license and the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

On March 12th, patrol was enhanced in the area of Interstate 40 between North Watkins Street and Covington Pike due to high crime on the interstate involving road rage. While patrolling in this area, Officer J. Smith spotted a red Ford Mustang with expired tags on I-40 West near Austin Peay Highway.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Kendrick White and discovered him to have a suspended license for failing to show proof of insurance in June 2017. While talking with Kendrick, the officer noticed the obvious smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Kendrick was taken into custody.

While Officer Smith and Officer Burnett were investigating the Mustang and conducting an inventory, they discovered a folded $1 bill located inside the driver’s side door containing a white powder-like substance that was consistent with cocaine. In addition, Officer Smith found a clear baggie inside the sun visor that contained a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. Both items were taken for testing, where the white powder tested positive for cocaine at 0.1 grams and the green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana at 2.2 grams.

Kendrick White was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent, driving on a suspended license, and violation of vehicle registration law. He was later released on his own recognizance.
