27-year-old Taylor Petty was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon after he shot his girlfriend when she ended the relationship and then drove her to the hospital, dropped her off at the door, and drove away, per report.
On November 12th, Taylor Crowden reported to Memphis Police Officers Matthews and Wilson that she broke up with her boyfriend, Taylor Petty, and he armed himself with a loaded handgun. According to the affidavit, she stated that she was leaving her residence, located at 973 Hawkview Drive, Cordova, TN, in her 2012 Mercedes Benz E350. Crowden told officers that Petty followed her outside with the loaded handgun and shot her one time in her upper collar bone area. Petty refused to call Crowden an ambulance when she asked him. He eventually drove her to Methodist Germantown Hospital, let her out, and drove away. Crowden was treated for her gunshot wound after being flown to Regional One Hospital by helicopter.
On November 14th, Crowden went to the Domestic Violence Bureau and positively identified a photo of Petty as the person who shot her. Sergeant Carver’s body camera recorded Crowden’s oral statement. After a police computer check, it was confirmed that Petty did not possess a valid handgun carry permit.
Taylor Petty was arrested on November 16th, and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
