Man calls ex-girlfriend over 60 times, slaps and strangles her in store parking lot

42-year-old Demetrius Reed was charged with harassment and aggravated assault after police say he called his girlfriend more than 60 times, threatened to hurt her, and strangled her when he found her later that same day.

On December 6th, Memphis Police Officer Conner received a report from Ida Slappy at the residence of 3493 Vernon Avenue. Ida advised her ex-boyfriend, Demetrius Reed, refused to accept that she broke up with him and continuously called her 60 to 70 times. She stated he threatened to hurt her and feared for her safety.

Later that same day, Memphis Police Officer Majid received another report from Ida at 3681 Jackson Avenue. According to the affidavit, Reed approached Ida as she was in the parking lot and started strangling her. She briefly lost consciousness and when she woke up, Reed still had his hands around her neck. She said she was able to get away to call the police and upon arrival, the officer noted a scratch and bruising on her neck.

Demetrius Reed was arrested and charged with harassment and aggravated assault. He is currently jailed in lieu of an $11,000 bond.
