26-year-old Kadarius Douglas was charged with burglary of a building and vandalism after breaking the window of a glass sliding door at Sam’s Club and then told police it was his “freedom of rights to break into the Sam’s Club.”
On June 1st, Officers Wilson and Bittick were dispatched to 2150 Covington Way in regards to a disturbance at Sam’s Club. Upon arrival, officers met with Daquan Adams, an employee of the grocery store, who explained that while walking to the store’s exit, he detected a man standing outside, looking in through the exterior glass sliding doors. Adams noticed that the glass on one of the sliding doors was busted, and the man was attempting to enter through the store’s interior doors. The man proceeded to exit through the busted window when Adams spotted him.
Adams explained to police the man then walked away from the store and began walking towards the Wendy’s located on 2180 Covington Pike. Upon further investigation, Adams discovered that a gray brick was thrown into the building and that the interior set of doors were partially opened.
Officers found a man matching the description given by Adams nearby at the aforementioned Wendy’s. The man was later identified as Kadarius Douglas. When law enforcement stopped Douglas, there was a piece of a gray brick in his hand. Douglas was apprehended, all the while claiming that it was his “freedom of rights to break into the Sam’s Club.” Sam’s Club manager-on-duty during the incident, Thomas Burcham, witnessed Douglas walking away from the store. Burcham informed law enforcement that the sliding glass door’s window was valued at $1,200.
Kadarius Douglas was arrested and charged with burglary of a business and vandalism. His bond was set at $7,500.
