27-year-old Alexus Taylor was drunk driving under near Tillman Street and Sam Cooper Boulevard on May 24th. Officers observed a Nissan Maxima around the area with tags that did not come back to the vehicle. Officers then attempted to make a traffic stop with lights and sirens activated, but the Driver refused to stop. The vehicle then sped off, turning right on Sam Cooper Boulevard across three lanes of traffic. Taylor’s 4-month-old child was in the vehicle as she was evading police. Taylor got away, and officers spotted the vehicle parked at Osaka Japanese Cuisine near Poplar Avenue. The officers entered the restaurant and inside and took Taylor into custody. Taylor was shown to have four active warrants for failure to appear, improper use of auto paperwork, speeding, and driving while license was suspended.

Albert Chatman steals air freshener from Dollar General

60-year-old Albert Chatman stole merchandise from the Lamar Avenue Dollar General on the afternoon of February 5th. Dorothy Boles, a manager at the location, flagged officers down regarding the incident and pointed out Chatman. After a brief foot chase, Chatman was detained. Officers located 4 Febreze air freshener bottles and a pack of Glade air freshener plug-ins, totaling $29.19. He was taken into custody. After being released, Chatman failed to appear in court, so a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on May 22nd. Chatman was taken into custody for theft and evading on May 26th.

Laura Gipson flees police in Infiniti G37, caught with meth & marijuana

36-year-old Laura Ashley Gipson was taken into custody for evading arrest, simple possession, felony possession, false reporting, and unlawful drug paraphernalia on May 15th. Around 5:16 p.m., deputies were called to the Sycamore View Road Fairview Inn regarding a possible drug violation. When officers arrived, they noticed a gray Infiniti G37 with dark window tint traveling northbound on Sycamore View Road toward I-40. Officers caught up to the G37 near Summer Avenue and activated their emergency equipment for a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. During the pursuit, the Infinity’s windows were halfway down, and officers observed a white female with sandy brown hair, later identified as Gipson, as the driver. Later, officers located the G37 backed into the Fairview Inn parking lot and surveilled it. As officers watched the vehicle, a white female, Gipson, wearing a red shirt and shorts, approached the vehicle, opened the rear driver-side door, and grabbed a purple Bass Pro shop bag and a grey backpack with blue trim from the car. Officers converged on the vehicle and detained her. A subsequent search led to them finding a glass pipe, a baggy with 1.2 grams of marijuana, and a bag with 1.2 grams of methamphetamine. Even though officers reviewed footage showing her operating the vehicle, Gipson denied driving the car. Then, she gave them “Sheila Hamby’s” social security number before officers positively identified her. Gipson then admitted to fleeing from the traffic stop and was detained for the occurrence.

Marika Hill jailed for attempting to help boyfriend evade police

28-year-old Marika Hill was booked on May 13th for driving the getaway car for her boyfriend as he fled from police. Police were dispatched to Bontura Drive for several active felony warrants on Monterio Toney. Detectives set up a perimeter to find Toney after he fled from the officers. Officers then made contact with Hill, who was driving a vehicle around the area with no tags. She accidentally slipped up and said she was on the phone with her boyfriend, Toney, and was trying to give him a ride to evade police, so she was detained. While in the back of the squad car, Toney called Hill several times, asking where she was.

Cekhia Coleman flees police after alleged vehicle break-ins at Landing Flats Apartments

18-year-old Cekhia Coleman was caught attempting to flee police after an incident that had occurred near Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue on April 21st. When officers arrived, they spoke with Justin Allen, a security guard for the Landing Flats Apartments. Allen advised police that a white Nissan Altima was responsible for breaking into vehicles in the garage of Landing Flats Apartments. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop, and demanded the driver to stop. Coleman then put the car in drive and drove off. Officers eventually got the vehicle to stop and took Coleman into custody. Upon being taken into custody, officers smelled a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car as well as smoke leaving the vehicle. Upon officers searching the vehicle, they found 28.7 grams of marijuana underneath the front passenger seat. Coleman was taken into custody for evading arrest.

Jonie Bowen jailed for prostitution and indecent exposure near SouthEast Motel in Memphis

23-year-old Jonie Bowen was one of several females who were congregating, waving at passersby in front of The Southeast Motel, which is on the Attorney General’s No Trespass Program due to being known for violent crimes, prostitution, and illegal narcotic distribution, during the evening hours of October 20th. Officer Tulo responded to a complaint call regarding the possibility of numerous female sex workers at Lamar Avenue. Upon arrival, Officer Tulo activated his blue lights and was able to detain Bowen after a short foot pursuit. Bowen denied occupying a room at the Southeast Motel and was observed to be wearing black see-through lingerie, exposing her body parts to the public, as she loitered. Bowen told officers that she was previously charged with the manifestation of prostitution in Dallas, Texas. Officers placed Bowen in custody for criminal trespassing, evading arrest, prostitution, and indecent exposure.
