Chicago felon charged in Memphis for theft, possession of firearm, heroin, and cocaine

39-year-old Asya Latimore was charged with theft of merchandise, unlawful possession of a weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of cocaine with intent, possession of heroin with intent, and possession of contraband in a penal facility when her vehicle was recognized in connection with a string of thefts. The additional drug charges were accrued when a strip search was conducted at booking.

On April 28th, Ridgeway Taskforce Officers Buford, Murphy and Ezell were dispatched to Winchester Road and Centennial Drive. Upon arrival, Officer Buford was briefed by Detective Westrich in regard to a blue Buick Lacrosse recognized in connection to a series of thefts across Memphis and Colliersville. According to the affidavit, Officers Buford and Murphy pulled over a vehicle of matching description and identified Asya Latimore as the driver and Jessica Ingram as the passenger, both were detained per the request of Detective Westrich.

Officers noted Latimore admitted there was a gun in the trunk but denied ownership. The Smith & Wesson 9mm discovered in the trunk was revealed to be stolen and valued at $350. Further investigation disclosed Latimore to be a convicted felon from Chicago. After being transported to the Ridgeway station, Sergeant Horton stated that during a strip search Latimore was instructed to squat and cough which produced a black bag with 41.6 grams of cocaine individually packaged and two bags of heroin totaling 23.6 grams.

Asya Latimore was arrested and charged with theft of merchandise, unlawful possession of a weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of cocaine with intent, possession of heroin with intent, and possession of contraband in a penal facility. Her bond was set at $61,000.
