Man followed for no seatbelt found with joint and Sig Sauer

24-year-old Tadarious Abston was charged with driving with a suspended license, theft of property, possession of a weapon and cannabis, violation of registration and seat belt law after being stopped for driving without a seatbelt and expired tags.

On August 13th, Detectives Ufeu and Little were on patrol when Ufeu saw a blue Lincoln driving westbound on Chelsea Avenue and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. A traffic stop was initiated at Chelsea Ave and North McLean Boulevard and it was discovered the tags were expired. Driver Tadarious Abston’s license has been suspended since August 6th, 2018. While speaking with him the detectives noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Detective Little asked if there was any marijuana in the car. Abston admitted he had just smoked and had one blunt left on the floor next to his seat. He was then asked if there was anything else in the vehicle he should know about and Abston made them aware he had a weapon in the glove compartment. He was detained and the vehicle was searched. The search produced a 0.7-gram joint, found where Abston said it would be, and a stolen black stock barrel Sig Sauer P938 in the glove compartment.

Tadarious Abston was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, theft of property $1,000 or less, unlawful possession of a weapon, violation of seat belt law over eighteen, violation of vehicle registration, possession of controlled substance marijuana. His bond was set at $750.
