Memphis man punches girlfriend for going to Walgreens

26-year-old Rodney McGowan was charged with domestic assault after he got upset at his girlfriend and punched her in the face for wanting to go to Walgreens.

On March 12th, Officer White was dispatched to a call regarding an assault on South Belle Grove Cove. Darnell Hagan told officers she was in the process of leaving her residence in a U-Haul to go to Walgreens. When her boyfriend Rodney McGowan found out, he became irate because she was leaving and accused her of going to see another guy.

Darnell went on to say as she was trying to leave, Rodney jumped in front of the U-Haul and to avoid hitting him, she pulled over to the side of the road. Darnell further stated that as she stopped, Rodney jumped onto the truck and punched her on the right side of the face. She then ran into the house to try to get away from Rodney, but he followed her inside and they continued arguing in front of her mother Lauren Williams. At that point, Darnell said she was able to fight back and get away from Rodney to call the police.

Officer White noted the observation that Darnell’s face had no swelling, but was able to see her hair all over her face. According to the affidavit, Darnell refused medical treatment. Officers then took pictures of Darnell’s face and had her fill out the Hold Harmless form.

Rodney McGowan was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He was later released on his own recognizance.
