Memphis teen sells his car and doesn’t get paid; reports as carjacking

19-year-old Hasan Jabbar was charged with false reporting when he sold his car to a man who refused to pay him and he told police that it had been carjacked. Meanwhile, the car had been towed.

On April 29th, Officers Schwab, Pelkey and Singleton responded to 4733 Owen Road where Hasan Jabbar told them he had been carjacked. According to an affidavit, Jabbar said two men pretending to want to purchase his white 2005 Nissan Altima sedan had brandished a handgun and took his car.

Research proved that the vehicle in question had actually been towed on April 22nd. After being detained, Jabbar admitted to bartering the car to another man for $1,500 but that the purchaser only gave him $300, refusing to pay the remainder.

Hasan Jabbar was arrested and charged with false reporting. He was later released on his own recognizance.
