21-year-old Zurecia Franklin was charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault because she held her one-year-old at knifepoint in a picture. She sent the picture to a friend of her child’s father telling him that she will kill the child if he does not answer her back.
On May 6th, MPD officers were called to 1936 Kansas St. Apt #11 by Allandous Carson who reported that he had been sent a picture of the defendant, Zurecia Franklin, holding a knife to their one-year-old’s throat. Carson and Franklin are the parents of the one-year-old and Franklin was demanding contact from Carson. Their friend, Rodarious Stewart was sent the photo with a text saying “If he don’t answer I’m going to kill his kids rite [sic] now,” per report.
Stewart showed Carson who then called the police. During the investigation, Carson told police that Franklin suffers from bipolar depression and paranoid schizophrenia. He stated that she had never threatened the kids before but had harmed herself in the past by cutting her arms.
Police released custody of the children to Carson. When Franklin was interviewed by the investigators she told them about her bipolar depression and said that she hasn’t taken her medication for a week and a half. Investigators asked if she knew about the picture on Carson’s phone and she told them that he had come by the apartment and showed her the picture. They then asked her if she knew where the picture had come from, she said that she doesn’t know and that it might have been photoshopped out of spite from Stewart. She said that she had filed a report against Stewart earlier that day and gave investigators consent to search her phone.
Zurecia Franklin was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault. She was later released on her own recognizance.
