Sex offender gets slugged trying to force himself into home

38-year-old Malcolm Ford was charged with aggravated burglary and sex offender violations after he was caught trying to force his way into someone’s house. The resident punched him, causing him to flee and drop his bag and ID card.

On August 15th, David Lanier reported an attempted burglary at his home on 2610 Young Avenue. Lanier stated Malcolm Ford, who is also known in the neighborhood for similar crimes, came onto his porch and picked up a box of food items while attempting to force his way into the home by slamming himself against the wooden front door. Lanier stated he was inside his residence watching out the window, afraid of what would happen if Ford entered and found him inside. Despite his fear, Lanier made the decision to unlock and open his front door to avoid further damages.

He told authorities he opened the door and punched Ford in self-defense causing him to stumble back and drop his backpack and identification card. Ford ran off leaving the box, backpack, and ID on the lawn. Officers located Ford at 384 Buntyn, matching Lanier’s description and with a secondary ID to match the one that was dropped. Lanier went to Tillmen Station to give his statement and verify Ford’s identity through a photo line-up.

Malcolm Ford was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and he is jailed in lieu of a $12,000 bond.
