19-year-old Decara Jones was charged with criminal attempt at 2nd-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon when she stabbed someone after starting a fight with her baby daddy’s family.
On October 18th, Memphis Police Detective Black was dispatched to 4891 Summit Ridge in reference to a stabbing. Detective Black spoke with multiple witnesses who advised him that they were all standing in the driveway of the residence. Decara Jones and her family approached and exited their vehicle and immediately attempting to start a physical fight with them. Detective Black was advised that Jones and Tyree Sargent were having some parenting issues about their child.
A brawl ensued between the families and Jones Rovella Taylor proceeded to stab Rovella Taylor in her left leg and back. Once this occurred the fighting commenced and Jones fled the scene with her family. Black was shown video evidence of the incident and you can see Jones aggressively approach Taylor while screaming, then hear Jones attack her. A male voice yelling “DD, NO! Not a knife NO,” can be clearly heard in the footage. Taylor was transported to the hospital to get her injuries treated and it was discovered that she suffered from a punctured lung. Taylor picked Jones out of a six-person photo line-up to be the person that stabbed her.
Decara Jones was arrested and charged with criminal attempt at 2nd-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. She was released on a $20,000 bond.
