Woman found with gun and pills during traffic stop for window tint

39-year-old Lakaisha Gooden was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, oxycodone, and tinted windows after police say they found a pistol and four pills in her Louis Vuitton bag.

On November 21st, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Delaney reported a 2020 gray Dodge Challenger with tinted windows on Northaven Drive. The deputy advised a traffic stop was performed at Penny Pantry after the vehicle turned on Breckenwood Drive. Deputy Delaney stated an overwhelming smell of marijuana came out of the car as the driver, Lakaisha Gooden, rolled down her window.

According to the affidavit, the window tint was detected at 14%. When asked how much marijuana was in the car, Lakaisha and her passenger, Dontez Cannady, responded with none. However, Dontez admitted to smoking a blunt before getting into the vehicle. Lakaisha also told police she had a weapon in her purse. Deputy Labrum proceeded to patdown Dontez and recovered $214 from his pocket.

While searching the vehicle, Deputy Labrum discovered a brown Louis Vuitton purse that contained a pink SCCY pistol loaded with five rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Deputy Binnington additionally found $1,331 in the purse and Deputy Labrum identified four pills (10 mg) of oxycodone in a gold, metal container. No marijuana was located in the vehicle nor on either individual.

Lakaisha Gooden was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, oxycodone, and tinted windows. She was released on her own recognizance.
