Felon found with marijuana and gun during traffic stop for turn signal violation

27-year-old Anthony Sutton was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of marijuana, and improper lane changing after he was pulled over for not using a turn signal.

On November 27th, Memphis Police Detectives Campbell, Farrington, and Scott responded to a drug call at 4609 Knight Arnold Road. While in the area of American Way and South Perkins Road, the detectives advised a black Nissan Sentra failed to use a turn signal when changing lanes. They then tried to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle eventually stopped at Knight Arnold Road and Knight Road.

Police reported the driver, Anthony Sutton, was a convicted felon and had several active warrants for burglary and theft of property. They stated as he was exiting his vehicle, a blunt with 1.2 grams of marijuana fell out of his lap onto the ground. A search of the vehicle revealed a plastic bag containing 25 grams of marijuana, a black scale, and a small plastic tray with marijuana residue in the center console as well as a loaded Ruger P345 handgun under the passenger seat.

Anthony Sutton was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, unlawful carrying of a weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of marijuana, and improper lane changing. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
