55-year-old Carlton Wicks was observed stealing from a Family Dollar on South Bellevue Avenue. Officers were flagged down by Alisha Long, the manager of Family Dollar, who stated she observed a man concealing dish detergent inside his pants while in the store. She then told officers he walked out without paying for the merchandise, leaving the scene on a bicycle. Officers pulled into the area and followed Wicks on the bicycle until they could detain him near South Bellevue Boulevard and Quinn Avenue. Upon detaining Wicks, officers performed a patdown, recovering three bottles of Dawn dish detergent. The merchandise was returned, and Wicks was taken into custody for theft.
Carlton Wicks Of Gill Street Memphis, TN, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on May 27th, charged with theft of property. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $250.
