18-year-old Takiya Manning had a domestic incident with her mother, Shanier Scott, at their Ashland Lake apartment around 10:45 p.m. on May 8th. Deputies arrived and spoke with Scott, who stated she and Manning argued in her bedroom, where she attempted to take away Manning’s cell phone, which led to a scuffle. She said that Manning struck her multiple times in the face before Ricardo Johnson, Scott’s fiancé, separated them. Johnson had to break them up two more times after Manning continued to attack her. Manning told officers that Scott had hit her first in her bedroom, but when they were in the living room, she tried to forcibly retrieve her phone from her mother repeatedly. Manning was deemed the primary aggressor and was taken into custody for domestic assault.
Takiya Manning was booked into the Shelby County Jail on May 9th, charged with assault. She was released on her own recognizance.
