31-year-old Antwonesha Thomas was arrested after her three-year-old son shot himself with a handgun at a Bertram CV residence on May 5th. When officers arrived on the scene, they immediately provided first aid to the child until paramedics arrived. Officers took possession of the firearm, and the child was rushed to LeBonheur Hospital as he was in critical condition. Thomas told the officers that her husband, Jermaine Wilkes, had left his 9mm Taurus G2C in their car the night before. Thomas then stated that as she was driving home, she noticed it and placed it in her purse to secure it later. When she got home, she put the purse on a chair in the living room and walked to the kitchen. Thomas claimed that when she was in the kitchen, she heard a gunshot in the living room, where she found her child lying there with the gun next to him. The bullet entered the child’s lower abdomen, exited his body, and reentered through his lower leg. Thomas was taken in for further investigation and arrested for Reckless endangerment.

Antwonesha Shonquise Thomas of Shannon Circle Memphis, TN, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on May 5th, charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. She is free on a $40,000 bond.
