27-year-old Jeremiah Gray was charged with possession of marijuana with intent, possession of Xanax with intent, possession of Ecstasy with intent, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest after attempting to outrun police that approached him for suspicious activity.
On February 29th, several officers were patrolling in the high drug-trafficking area of Chelsea Avenue and May Street. Officer Fleener pulled into the Chelsea Express convenience store and observed a black male wearing a tie-dye hoodie reach into the passenger side of a parked vehicle acting as if he either dropped something off or picked something up from a person in that vehicle. As the officer attempted to make contact with the man, later identified as Jeremiah Gray, he started walking away. Officer Wright pulled into the parking lot in front of Jeremiah, he then turned around and started running. Both officers witnessed Jeremiah drop a large bag that appeared to contain marijuana. A third officer, Officer Henderson, joined in the chase and also witnessed the dropped bag. After a short chase, Jeremiah was apprehended and taken into custody. Officers were unable to locate the bag that had been dropped during the chase.
Officer Willingham conducted a search incident to arrest and discovered a pill bottle with numerous pills of different colors in Jeremiah’s back right pocket, a large bag containing 7 small bags of possible marijuana, another small bag of potential marijuana in his front right pocket. Officer Moore found $45 in small bills in his front right jeans pocket and $400 in 20’s in his front right jogging pants pocket. The cash was confiscated due to the belief that it was being used in the buying and selling of illegal drugs.
Officer Bates searched the foot pursuit trail and found a pill bottle with no label containing 12 white pills that were identified as Xanax. The green leafy substance in the bags tested positive for THC and the 73 different colored pills tested positive for Ecstacy.
Jeremiah Gray was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent, possession of Xanax with intent, possession of Ecstasy with intent, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $55,000.
