Memphis man jacks the charges up in stolen car, flees police and injures bystanders

21-year-old Jerelle Minor was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, theft of property, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while license suspended, intentionally evading arrest in auto, violation of financial law, and violation of vehicle registration law when officers stopped him in a stolen vehicle and when he attempted to flee, caused a car accident that injured bystanders.

On December 11th, Officers responded to a vehicle theft at 5372 Leaning Oak Drive. The owner of a gray 2015 Chrysler 200, Jontoria Hankins, told authorities she had left her keys in the vehicle and that it was missing.

On March 26th, officers located a gray Chrysler 200 at the Quinn Avenue and Elvis Presley Boulevard intersection. They noted that the vehicle and tags did not match. According to the affidavit, when officers were talking to Jerelle Minor they observed a rifle in the backseat of the vehicle and asked Minor to step out. This prompted Minor to attempt to flee the scene. He peeled out while disregarding a red light and collided with another vehicle near East Person that resulted in injuries.

From the accident, Minor fled on foot but was successfully apprehended. The vehicle identification number on the Chrysler that Minor was driving was the same as the one Hankins reported stolen in December. A search of the vehicle produced a Norinco SKS 7.62×39 caliber rifle and a Hi-Point C9 9mm sidearm. Jerelle Minor was driving on a suspended license and did not have insurance on the stolen Chrysler 200 valued at $11,939.

Jerelle Minor was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, theft of property, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while license suspended, intentionally evading arrest in auto, violation of financial law, and violation of vehicle registration law. His bond was set at $40,000.
