Memphis man opens fire on family’s home with nephew and sister inside

29-year-old LaMeadrick Turner was charged with two counts of aggravated assault after opening fire on his sister’s husband in a house that had his nine-year-old nephew still inside.

On May 31st, officers were dispatched to 3521 Brantley Rd in regards to an aggravated assault. When arriving to the scene, law enforcement met with Sherita Smith who stated that she got into a verbal altercation with her brother, LaMeadrick Turner, who quickly became infuriated. After the altercation with his sister, Turner then began to argue with Smith’s husband, Courtney Smith Sr. Turner advised Smith to exit the premises, threatening to open fire on the residence if he returned.

According to the affidavit, Smith Sr. proceeded to enter the home once again, to which Turner responded by pulling out a handgun and firing multiple shots. Smith explained that the nine-year-old nephew of Turner was inside the house when shots were fired. Officers then charged Turner with two counts of aggravated assault and transported him to the Shelby County Sheriff’s office.

LaMeadrick Turner was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault. His bond was set at $5,000.
