30-year-old Shantarian Smith, 34-year-old Darcel Hinds, 33-year-old Melissa Jones, 42-year-old Petrina Green, 38-year-old Claudette Chatman, 29-year-old Brittany Thompson, and 28-year-old Alexandria Bell were all caught in a prostitution sting that was conducted by the MPD around various parts of the city known for drugs and prostitution.
On June 18th, Memphis Police Teams 3 and 8 conducted a prostitution operation around several areas, including the 1700 block of Elvis Presley Blvd, the 700 Block of Mclemore Avenue, the 200 block of Simpson Avenue, Bellevue Blvd, Orgill Avenue, South Parkway Avenue, and 3rd Street. Detective Scott and Sergeant Fox were the decoys who helped catch several women, including Shantarian Smith, Darcel Hinds, Melissa Jones, Petrina Green, Claudette Chatman, Brittany Thompson, and Alexandria Bell.

Melissa Jones was approached by decoy Detective Scott spoke to Jones and she offered oral and vaginal sex for $20. Jones was caught within a third of a mile from A. B. Hill Elementary. Shantarian Smith was approached by the decoy Detective Scott and began making conversation, during which she offered vaginal sex to him for $10 or $20 which happened within half a mile from Rozelle Elementary School. Claudette Chatman propositioned Detective Scott for oral and vaginal sex for $40 around 460 South Wellington, which is four-tenths of a mile from Larose School.
Within half a mile of St. Augustine Elementary Detective Scott was approached by Darcel Hinds while he was a decoy. She asked him if he wanted her to perform oral sex on him for $20. Sergeant Fox saw Petrina Green walking around when he initiated a conversation with her which turned sexual when she offered him oral sex for $25. This occurred within half of a mile from Delta Prep. Also, Sergeant Fox was the decoy when Brittany Thompson offered him oral sex for $25. This arrest took place within half of a mile from Delta Prep. Detective Griffin was acting as a decoy when Alexandria Bell offered him oral sex for $40. All women were caught after a takedown signal was given and were placed under arrest then transported to Jail East.
Shantarian Smith, Darcel Hinds, Melissa Jones, Petrina Green, Claudette Chatman, Brittany Thompson, and Alexandria Bell were arrested and charged with prostitution, some near a school. Smith and Thompson’s bonds were set at $2,000 each. Bell and Chatman’s bonds were set at $1,500 each. Hinds, Jones, and Green were released on their own recognizance.
