Booked a room but slept in jail: Memphis man caught with crack, marijuana, and sizzurp

52-year-old Cedric Jones was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of legend drug without a prescription, possession of marijuana, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia when the Memphis Multi-Agency Gang Unit detained him outside the hotel he was staying in.

On July 17th, Memphis Multi-Agency Gang Unit investigators received a tip that a wanted individual named Cedric Jones was residing at the Inland Suites on 1218 Winchester. According to an affidavit, Jones has active felony warrants for narcotics. Detective Pittman noticed Jones’ 2012 Nissan Maxima parked in front of the hotel. When authorities saw Jones came out of the front door of the hotel and get into the Maxima, they quickly surrounded the vehicle and placed him in custody. Jones was searched incident to arrest and detectives found a bag of weed weighing 4.6 grams and $275 in the same pocket.

In the vehicle, Detective Harkness observed a marijuana cigarette and a bottle of promethazine weighing 526.9 grams on the driver side rear floorboard. During the search, Jones made the spontaneous comment “Nothing in the car, I have about $30 worth of crack in my room 421.” Jones did not consent to a search of his room so Det. Pittman secured a warrant. A search of the room was conducted by Det. Stewart and K9 Jax and it yielded 2 bags of rock cocaine weighing 2.6 grams, a razor blade, scale, 58.3 grams of unknown white powder, and residue on multiple surfaces. Jones was transported to MGU Headquarters for further investigation. The 2012 Nissan Maxima was also towed there pending forfeiture seizure. Jones was later transported to Shelby County Jail.

Cedric Jones was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of legend drug without a prescription, possession of marijuana, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $30,000.
