Contact was made with the cousin at a nearby business, who claimed the stabbing was out of self-defense. According to the affidavit, Deja initiated the assault by striking the cousin with a closet rod in the face and neck areas. The woman sustained injuries to the aforementioned areas. Tamia responded to Yanov’s attack by piercing Deja with a fork in self-defense. Lisa Yanov proceeded to separate the two parties and vacated the premises with Tamia.

Detectives were contacted and arrived on the scene in order to interview both parties. Following statements from both Deja and Tamia, detectives determined Deja to be the primary assailant during the incident. Yanov was transported to Regional One Health Medical Center and later Shelby County Jail East.

Deja Yanov was arrested and charged with domestic assault. She was later released on her own recognizance.
