Man charged when caught by security guard during drug transaction

36-year-old Daniel Harkness was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and meth after he was caught in a drug deal by an apartment complex security guard.

On August 15th, Howard Windford, a security guard at The Grove Apartments, stated he observed Daniel Harkness on the property with another white male older in age doing a hand-to-hand transaction. The apartment complex on the DA’s Anti-Trespass program. Howard advised Harkness was not a resident of the apartment and he went to take him into custody.

Howard advised he observed Harkness attempting to stuff something in his waistband while taking him into custody. Howard observed a small white box fall to the ground and advised the white box contained crystal meth. At this point, Howard placed Harkness in custody and called Memphis Police. Officers Juarez and Thomas made the scene and searched Harkness prior to transport. Officers located a glass pipe in Harkness’s backpack. While officers were on the scene, Howard found additional crystal meth.

Daniel Harkness was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and meth. His bond was set at $15,000.
