Man tests drives vehicle in Arkansas to be found hours later at a Memphis hotel

55-year-old Joe Washington was charged with auto theft when he was caught in possession of a stolen 2004 Chevy Blazer that he was test-driving from Tiffany’s Auto Sales in Arkansas and never returned.

On August 13th, Officers Jones and Hunt received a phone call about a stolen white 2004 Chevy Blazer from Clark Towing. Clark told them that the vehicle has been pinging in different locations via the GPS device in the vehicle. All of the locations – 3521 Lamar Avenue, 3202 Ashwood Street, South Goodlett Drive, and Cochese Avenue all had no contact with the vehicle. After the officers checked Extended Stay located at 4300 American Way they noticed the Blazer parked in the parking lot. Officer Jones noticed Joe Washington sitting inside the driver’s seat.

Through further investigation, the officer found that the vehicle was stolen out of West Memphis, Arkansas from Tiffany’s Auto Sales at 11 that morning. Tiffany Nix of Tiffany’s Auto Sales located on 1419 East Broadway Boulevard in West Memphis was contacted. She stated that Washington was test driving the vehicle and then never returned. The Blazer was released and given to Clark per the instructions of Nix after Lieutenant Foster arrived on the scene.

Joe Washington was arrested and charged with auto theft. His bond was set at $5,000.
