27-year-old David Riley was charged with aggravated assault, driving on a suspended license, evading and resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, DUI, driving without insurance, reckless driving, and not stopping at a sign after he was observed in his vehicle at a vacant church.
On August 15th, Deputy Overly was called to an aggravated assault at Appling Rd and Dusty Ln. Deputies Stamper and Munn were patrolling the area due to increased burglary attempts when they spotted a vehicle with out of state tags running parked in an empty church parking lot. Authorities approached the vehicle and saw a white male, David Riley, in the driver’s seat. Authorities announced their presence to Riley and asked him to keep his hands on the wheel instead of in his pants. Deputies asked Riley to step out of the vehicle.
Riley yelled back at the deputies “Fuck this!” and put the car in reverse. Riley struck Deputy Munn in the leg and elbow, so police began to give chase to Riley who was trying to get away by going down Dusty Ln. Riley made a quick left on Appling, ignoring a stop sign, and made another fast left on to Mullins Station Rd, again ignoring the stop sign present.
Riley wrecked shortly thereafter attempting to make a left from Raleigh Lagrange Rd to Trinity Rd, Riley was pulled from his vehicle and began resisting arrest. A search of Riley’s vehicle uncovered a lack of insurance on the vehicle and a rolled marijuana blunt. Riley told the authorities that he had taken ecstasy and smoked marijuana earlier. Deputy Tolbert arrived on the scene, read Riley his Miranda Rights, and he was taken into custody.
David Riley was charged with aggravated assault, driving on a suspended license, evading and resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, DUI, driving without insurance, reckless driving, and not stopping at a sign. His bond was set at $20,000.
