Police chase man in stolen Lexus after he struck a patrol car that ends in foot pursuit

33-year-old Kerkk Payne was charged with theft of property, driving on suspended license, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving when he was found in a stolen Lexus, hit a patrol car, then led police on a chase that ended in a foot pursuit.

On August 14th, the victim of a carjacking, Deandrus Carter, contacted police about his 1999 Lexus LS400 that was stolen. Police arrived at 3183 Summer Avenue to speak to Carter who said that it was stolen while he was inside.

The police recognized the vehicle in the area of Summer Avenue and Tillman. Kerkk Payne then hit a police vehicle and evaded arrest by running red lights and weaving in and out of traffic. He gave chase in the vehicle until he wrecked at Poplar and Highland, where he then ran from the scene. Police shortly caught him after. There was a witness that saw Payne steal the vehicle. After running him through the system, police found his license to be revoked.

Kerkk Payne was arrested and charged with theft of property, driving on suspended license, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. His bond was set at $25,000.
