Day drinking leads to man slapping and strangling his girlfriend

33-year-old Jerome Reid was charged with aggravated assault when he slapped his girlfriend several times and strangled her after they had been drinking all day.

On September 5th, Shelby County Officers Fitz and Wroblewski responded to a simple domestic violence assault at 3241 Barron Avenue. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Regina Morgan, who stated that she and her boyfriend Jerome Reid had been drinking all day. She advised that Jerome began to raise his voice at her and when she asked him to stop he slapped her in the face multiple times.

He then began to strangle her restricting her airway and she had to bite him to get him off of her. Officers observed three scratch marks on the right side of her neck and a red eye from being slapped. Regina refused medical attention and refused to answer questions for the domestic violence lethality form. Jerome was walking out of the house upon officer arrival and was detained without incident.

Jerome Reid was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was later released on his own recognizance.
