Man accused of whacking girlfriend in head with fire iron after stating “I will kill you”

59-year-old Robert Caldwell was charged with domestic assault when he attacked his girlfriend of twenty years by strangling her, throwing her on the floor, and hitting her in the head with a fire iron.

On September 5th, Memphis Police Officers McClinton and Taylor responded to an armed party at 5705 East Burnette Place. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Regina Ross who explained that her live-in boyfriend of twenty years, Robert Caldwell, was consuming alcohol and then began to verbally assault her. She said that when she was cooking he approached her and physically attacked her.

Regina reported that he got in her face, pushed her, strangled her, threw her on the floor, and then got on top of her yelling “I will kill you”. Robert then grabbed a fire iron from the fireplace and struck her in the head. Regina stated that she did not fall unconscious but felt as though she might.

Robert Caldwell was arrested and charged with domestic assault causing bodily harm. His bond was set at $3,500.
