Pair charged with stealing Dodge Journey; man runs from police leaving woman behind

25-year-old Bill Hancock and 20-year-old Destiny Anthony were charged with theft of property after police found them in a stolen 2020 Dodge Journey outside of Check Into Cash, then Bill was caught with the keys and marijuana.

On October 22nd, Memphis Police Officers Webb and Bryan were called to the area of Elvis Presley Boulevard and East Raines Road after a license plate reader identified a stolen vehicle. The officers observed the stolen 2020 Dodge Journey backed into a parking space in front of Check Into Cash at 4041 Elvis Presley Blvd. Destiny Anthony was standing outside the vehicle on the driver’s side and Bill Hancock was sitting in the front passenger seat.

As officers approached the vehicle Bill attempted to flee on foot but was caught after a short chase. Bill had the keys to the vehicle clipped to his pants and he was holding 0.9 grams of marijuana in his hand. Destiny advised that Bill asked her to drive the vehicle but she was unaware of why he wanted her to drive. Bill stated that he was responsible for stealing the vehicle and that Destiny was aware that it was stolen. The stolen 2020 Dodge Journey was valued at approximately $25,170.

Bill Hancock was arrested and charged with theft of property, evading arrest, and possession of marijuana. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

Destiny Anthony was arrested and charged with theft of property and she was released on her own recognizance.
