Man rams police vehicle, with officer still inside, in attempt to flee Wal-Mart

28-year-old Darius Gilkey was charged with aggravated assault and burglary of a business after he rammed the officer’s patrol vehicle, who saw him rob Wal-Mart, with his Infiniti G35.

On October 23rd, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Jones responded to an aggravated assault and burglary of a business at the Wal-Mart at 3950 Austin Peay Highway. Upon arrival, he made contact with Sergeant Simonsen who stated that he was assaulted by Darius Gilkey after witnessing him burglarize Wal-Mart.

Sgt. Simonsen advised he saw Darius jump over the security fence of the auto department. When Sgt. Simonsen approached him in an attempt to detain him, Darius ran. He exited through the garden center fire exit. Darius then got into a silver Infiniti G35 and struck Sgt. Simonsen’s patrol vehicle while he was in it.

Darius Gilkey was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and burglary. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
