Teen holds man at gunpoint to steal his SUV; found 11 days later

19-year-old Kaylon Hairston was charged with carjacking and aggravated robbery after a man stated Kaylon pointed a gun at him, took his phone and wallet, then drove away in his SUV.

On October 14th, a Memphis Police officer received a report from Lee Scott that stated he had been carjacked. At the intersection of Warford Avenue and Chelsea Avenue, Lee stated he was approached by two males. It was stated that Kaylon Hairston had a handgun and the second male was armed with a rifle. They both then demanded Lee’s phone and wallet. Lee stated he complied with Kaylon and his partner’s commands before they fled in his SUV.

On October 25th, Memphis Police officers noticed a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder parked in front of the Mapco, located at 979 Brooks Road. As officers were verifying that the vehicle was stolen, Kaylon walked up to the SUV with the keys to the vehicle in his hand. They asked Kaylon if the SUV was his, to which he said yes. Kaylon was then taken into custody where he was later identified by Lee in a photo line up.

Kaylon Hairston was arrested and charged with carjacking, aggravated robbery, and employment of a firearm to commit a felony. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
