Man admits to putting hands on girlfriend but insists it was non-violent

24-year-old Thomas Williams was charged with domestic assault after he reportedly would not let his girlfriend leave after pushing and strangling her.

On November 3rd, Memphis Police Officers Garland and Bryson responded to an apartment located at 2693 Garden Grove Circle. Kayleynn Norrod-Valdez stated that her boyfriend, Thomas Williams, had detained her from leaving after he physically assaulted her. The officer’s report stated that Williams pushed Norrod-Valdez on the couch and began to strangle her. Norrod-Valdez advised that he put both of his hands around her neck for approximately five seconds but stated that she did not lose consciousness.

She told officers that while Williams was collecting his belongings she called a friend. Per the report, Willams grabbed Norrod-Valdez’s phone and would not allow her to exit the residence until she met with the officers. No physical injuries were reported and a hold harmless was filled out and signed. During an interview, Williams did state that he put his hands on Norrod-Valdez but insisted that it was not violently. He was transported to 201 Popular for processing.

Thomas Williams was charged with domestic assault with bodily harm. He was released on his own recognizance.
