40-year-old Charles Curtis was charged with domestic assault and vandalism after he strangled his child’s mother, charged at her with a kitchen knife, and slashed her tires.
On November 3rd, Memphis Police Officers Harlin, Terry, and Pittman responded to a call at the residence of 2267 Deadrick Avenue. Upon arrival, Charles Curtis advised he wanted his child’s mother, Jasmine Dunmars, to leave after she cursed him out during an argument. However, Dunmars reported she was asleep with her three daughters when Curtis came home drunk and high and started strangling her. Per the report, she told him to “stop playing,” after he strangled her in an attempt to diffuse the situation because he has assaulted her multiple times in the past.
He then started arguing with her about her 13-year-old daughter’s phone and tried to take it from her. Curtis demanded Dunmars and her daughters get out of the house and as she was packing their belongings, he went outside and stabbed all of the tires on her 2007 Pontiac G6. Although she could not recall the exact order of events, she claimed at some point Curtis charged at her with a knife. Officers reported they did not find a knife on the scene. Dunmars said she was able to diffuse the situation and although she wanted to call the police, she was scared of what he would do to her if she did. According to the police, Curtis admitted to slashing her tires due to the fact that she would not leave.
Charles Curtis was arrested and charged with domestic assault and vandalism. He was later released on a $2,000 bond.
