Tinted windows led police to find weed, pills, over $5,000, and gun inside duo’s car

23-year-old Alexus “JUICY” Conard and 33-year-old Jeremy Carruthers were each charged with possession of marijuana after a search of the vehicle they were both occupying rendered over 70 grams of weed and $5,080.

On October 27th, Memphis Police Detectives Mills and Orlando observed a green 1998 Chevrolet Camaro with the entire windshield tinted, obstructing law enforcement from seeing inside the vehicle. They initiated a traffic stop and as Detective Mills was speaking to the driver, Jeremy Carruthers, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana. Jeremy did admit to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. Jeremy and the passenger, Alexus Conard, stepped out of the vehicle for the detectives to investigate the smell.

Detectives recovered a clear plastic wrap from Jeremy’s front pants pocket that contained 11 grams of marijuana. Alexus gave them a bag from her purse that contained 3.6 grams of marijuana. She also showed Detective Orlando a model 26, 9mm Glock that was in the passenger door which belonged to her but when it was run through their system it came back as unregistered. Detective Buchan recovered a black Nike backpack in the back seat that contained a digital scale and two separate plastic wraps of marijuana totaling 57.3 grams. Detective Orlando found another plastic wrap of marijuana that weighed 0.8 grams and Detective Mills recovered two white pills on the driver seat that were later identified as oxycodone.

Jeremy claimed the pills were his for a tooth-ache but advised that he did not have a prescription for them. He also had $1,245 in his front pocket and Alexus had $3,835 inside her purse that was suspected to be accumulated from drug sales. While on the scene, Jeremy’s Federal Probation Officer Gardner contacted the detectives and advised that he was a convicted felon.

Alexus Conard was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. She was later released on her own recognizance.

Jeremy Carruthers was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of financial law, driving without a license, possession of oxycodone, operating a vehicle with reflectorized windows, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He was released on a $20,000 bond.
