Man charged after burglarizing two vehicles and auto repair shop

44-year-old Tyras Watkins was charged with two counts of motor vehicle burglary and two counts of theft of property after reportedly stealing items from two cars and an automotive repair shop before getting caught.

On December 8th, Memphis Police Officers responded to a car prowler at 3686 Summer Avenue. Per the affidavit, the witness, Myquinice Caswell, stated that she saw Tyras enter her co-worker, Marion Cole’s, 2008 Hyundai Sonata, and took items from the car. He then went to No Worries Automotive, located at 3643 Summer Avenue, where he took a radio out of the open trunk of a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

As Tyras was leaving the parking lot, he went to the side of the business and took several cleaning supply items. He was stopped by other officers at an Exxon just west of the scene. He was brought back to the scene where Myquinice positively identified him. The estimated value of the items stolen was less than $1,000.

Tyras Watkins was arrested and charged with two counts of motor vehicle burglary and two counts of theft of property. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $1,000 bond.
