25-year-old Carleesha Holmes and 26-year-old Matrell Mashawn were charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon after they both admitted to firing their guns at each other over a fight that Carleesha was having with her sister.
On November 21st, Memphis Police officers were flagged down in the area of Auburn Road and Linwood Road in response to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officers were informed that Carleesha Holmes and Matrell Mashawn were involved in a disturbance at Sterling Townhomes, where they fired shots at each other during an altercation. Both were detained and officers spoke with Holmes, who advised she was arguing with her sister when Britney Blackburn and Mashawn showed up at her residence.
She admitted to arguing with Mashawn and firing a silver handgun at him. After she shot at him, he left the residence, and she followed until the police were flagged down. Mashawn confirmed that he argued with Holmes, but stated that during the argument, he tried to leave. According to Mashawn, Holmes tried to block his vehicle, and that is when he fired his weapon at her and then fled the scene. He reported that Holmes followed him, and while they were stuck in traffic, she broke his back window with a hammer.
He then saw the police and proceeded to flag them down. It was noted that he told his girlfriend, Britney Blackburn, to throw the gun out the window, and the officers found it at the intersection of Shelby Drive and Auburn Road. A search of Holmes’ vehicle revealed her silver handgun as well as brass knuckles, a bulletproof vest, an ASP baton, a large knife, and a machete.
Carleesha Holmes was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. She is currently jailed in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
