Veronica Cleaves threatens cousin with metal pole during confrontation about childcare

44-year-old Veronica Cleaves was involved in a domestic incident with her cousin, James Moye, at a Goodwill Lane residence on May 19th. When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Cleaves, who stated that Moye had fled the scene after she called the police earlier that same day. Cleaves said that she went to the Goodwill Lane residence to confront Moye and other family members about the care of the children inside the residence. Cleaves informed officers that Moye then became angry and aggressive before she armed herself with a metal pole, as there was a height difference between her and Moye. This is when Moye armed himself with a wrench, and the two continued to argue until Moye grabbed a black handgun and pointed it at Cleaves.

Officers then spoke with Moye, who stated that Cleaves had come over and made allegations of the children not receiving proper care. Moye told officers that Cleaves became angry and armed herself with the pole, which she hit against the couch in the living room multiple times. Moye noted that he stood up, armed himself with a wrench, and told Cleaves she needed to leave. Both Moye and Cleaves admitted to making threats towards each other while armed, but Moye denied owning a gun, stating he doesn’t even own one. Cleaves was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault.
