Cotton candy car bandit captured

19-year-old Desmond Crockett was charged with theft of property over $10,000 after wrecking a Chevy Camaro that was reported stolen three months prior.

On March 14th, officers responded to a call about an accident on Interstate 55 at Mallory Avenue that involved a black Chevy Camaro striking a guard rail. The driver, Desmond Crockett, told officers that while he was driving the vehicle hydroplaned and hit the guard rail.

While investigating the accident, officers conducted a check on Desmond and on the vehicle. Officers discovered the Camaro was reported to be stolen from Aaron Branscum out of Lake City, Arkansas on December 22nd. Desmond was arrested and taken to Regional One Hospital for injuries he suffered from the accident. The NADA value of the vehicle was $12,000.

Desmond Crockett was arrested and charged with theft of property over $10,000. He was later released on his own recognizance.
