Woman brings cocaine into Jail East via shoe

34-year-old Jennifer Hopper was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture/deliver/sell and contraband in a penal institution after getting caught with cocaine in her shoe during booking at Jail East. 

On February 28th, Officer King responded to a drug violation call at Jail East on Haley Road. About an hour prior, Jennifer Hopper was taken into custody on verified warrants and transported to Jail East. After Jennifer was cleared by a nurse at Jail East, she was escorted inside the facility.

She was then taken by Officer Jackson with Shelby County Jail into the bay area, where inmates are searched and are given a change of clothes. Jennifer removed her shoes and handed them to Officer Jackson, who noticed a wadded-up napkin inside one of the shoes that contained an unknown white powder. Officers took the substance to evidence for testing, and the Scott reagent test resulted in a positive test for cocaine with a net weight of 0.1 grams. 

Jennifer Hopper was additionally charged with Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver/ Sell and Contraband in Penal Institution. Her total bond was set at $15,000.
