Chicago man in stolen vehicle tries to outrun police hitting another car before running on foot

20-year-old Brandon Brown was charged with intentionally evading arrest in auto, evading arrest, leaving the scene of the accident, reckless driving, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, resisting official detention, and theft of property after officers recognized the vehicle that he was in was stolen. He then wrecked, got out, and ran to hide in the woods until he was caught by a K9 officer.

On May 14th, at 4 pm Deputy Shemwell was performing a routine patrol in the area of Farm Road and Gardner Road when he spotted a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle out of Chicago. When the deputy hit the lights to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle refused to stop and accelerated into a walking trail nearly hitting several pedestrians. The vehicle did not come to a stop until it hit a Mustang and a small tree. Brandon Brown then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Deputy Shemwell followed until Brown escaped him by running into a wooded area. Another officer arrived with his K9 who found Brown in the woods. He complained that he could not breathe while being treated by the fire unit for his minor injuries so he was transported to Regional One for medical clearance. Reports were sent to Chicago PD who estimated the cost of the Camry being $2,000.

Brandon Brown was arrested and charged for intentionally evading arrest in auto, evading arrest, leaving the scene of the accident, reckless driving, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, resisting official detention, and theft of property. His bond was set at $10,000.
