Police chase drunk man who crashed into a building while driving drunk

32-year-old Maverick Key was charged with reckless driving, four counts of reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, violation of financial law, open container violation, and possession of ecstasy in a penal facility after police chased him for running away from his car after crashing it into a building while intoxicated.

On May 3rd, MPD officers received a complaint about a possible DUI at 3705 Malco Way. Officer Taylor was flagged down for a car that had crashed into a building. Upon arrival, officers saw Maverick Key running away as they approached the vehicle.

While chasing Key, officers saw him throw a black Taurus handgun. Officers caught him, detained him, and began searching the vehicle where they found empty bottles of liquor and a glass jar containing 13.6 grams of marijuana. Officers also described Key with having slurred speech and speaking incoherently. Key’s license was found to be suspended and he could not provide proof of financial responsibility for the vehicle.

Key was taken into custody and searched while under arrest. During booking, he was searched again and officers discovered a bag of multi-colored pills and powder in his front pocket. The pills tested positive for ecstasy with a total weight of 3.5 grams.

Maverick Key was arrested and charged with reckless driving, four counts of reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, violation of financial law, open container violation, and possession of ecstasy in a penal institution. His bond was set at $6,000.
