25-year-old Malachai Johnson was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon after his handgun fell to the floor and fired a shot into the apartment below him.
On August 1st, Memphis Police were dispatched to 4073 Saint Pierre Apartment 1 to a shot’s fired call. Officers made the scene and spoke with Randall Johnson and Taija Johnson. They advised the officer that a bullet entered their apartment from the apartment above them, and landed on Taija’s foot. No one was injured from the incident. After receiving their statement officers went upstairs to speak with Malachai Johnson. He admitted that the gun had fired by accident when it dropped to the floor.
Malachai Johnson was then transported to Felony Response for further questioning. He was advised of his rights, and Johnson affirmed that he understood them and provided a statement. Johnson advised he usually kept the gun under his pillow without a holster, and while he was getting ready for bed he shook his sheets and knocked the gun off the bed. This caused the gun to go off and fire into the apartment below.
Malachai Johnson was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. He was later released on his own recognizance.
