Fugitive felon admits to possessing a stolen handgun

25-year-old Michael Powell was charged with convicted felon in possession of a handgun and theft of property after being recognized by a Memphis police officer as a fugitive with active warrants for domestic violence and vandalism.

On September 3rd, Memphis Police Officer R. Walker observed a male exiting a maroon Dodge Charger on 2810 South Perkins Road at the BP gas station. Officer Walker approached the male and asked his name. Michael Powell confirmed his identity and the officer’s suspicion that he was the man described to have arrest warrants for domestic violence and vandalism.

While being detained, Michael notified Officer Walker that he was a convicted felon and in possession of a handgun. The handgun was located under the driver’s seat of the car. Officer Walker retrieved the stolen FNX .45 handgun containing fifteen live .45 rounds. The gun was stolen during a burglary on August 3rd at Shoot Point Blank located at 1740 Century Cove and is valued at approximately $1,199.

Michael Powell was arrested and charged with convicted felon in possession of a handgun and theft of property. He is still currently jailed and has a hearing scheduled on September 4th.
