Man places margarita on mailbox before knowingly evading police

38-year-old Shondell Dotson was charged with public intoxication, evading arrest, and disorderly conduct after police reported to Howell Apartments for shots fired to find him before he decided to walk away from them.

On October 19th, Memphis Police Officers Fox and Christopher responded to Howell Apartments located at 2238 Howell Avenue to shots fired call. It was stated that the complainant said that two shots were fired outside of the apartment complex. Officers saw Shondell Dotson watch them arrive on scene. The officers stated that they did not observe any other people in or near the complex. Shondell Dotson left a GMC Yukon running and quickly walked away from officers. Officer Fox and Officer Christopher gave numerous verbal commands for Dodson to stop.

As Dotson continued to walk away, officers noticed that he was holding an alcoholic lemonade margarita which he placed on top of a mailbox. He continued to walk away from the officers against their instructions for him to stop. The officers caught up to Dotson who was placing his hands in his pockets and took him to the ground. Dotson was asked why he would not stop, he refused to give an explanation yet he acknowledged that he heard the officers say stop. The GMC Yukon was towed to the city lot, due to it was left running and Dotson denied owning the vehicle. Dotson had slurred speech, walking staggered, and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Shondell Dotson was arrested and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and evading arrest. He was later released on his own recognizance.
