According to the affidavit, Bruce heard his mother and cousin, Reginald Williams, talking about chasing him away by pepper-spraying him. Bruce proceeded to get back in his car but before he could leave Reginald got in the vehicle and the two had a brief argument. During the argument, Bruce struck Reginald in the face and shoved him against the window of the vehicle. Reginald stated he was able to pepper-spray him and he then fled on foot.

Residents at 2688 Morning Woods Cove reported Bruce on their property and officers arrived, taking him into custody. Further investigation revealed Bruce had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had an extensive history of emergency hospitalization commitments. This was noted to be the fourth call made at the residence and the third report taken of the day.
