Man charged after going 75 in a 35 MPH zone with cocaine and needles in vehicle

44-year-old Eric Lee was charged with six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of disregarding a traffic signal, possession of crack cocaine, reckless driving, speeding, and violation of financial law after he sped through a red light and stop sign with cocaine and needles in his car.

On November 26th, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Adkins and Kovacs responded to a drug violation call on Whitten Road and I-40. According to the affidavit, an orange Dodge Nitro ran a red light at the intersection of Raleigh Lagrange Road and Dexter Road, going 75 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The deputies also witnessed the driver, later identified as Eric Lee, disregard a stop sign as he turned onto Goodlett Farms Parkway.

A traffic stop was then initiated with emergency equipment on Whitten Road. Lee initially told the police there was nothing in the vehicle, but after K-9 Handler Deputy Wingo and K-9 Marko arrived, he admitted there were needles and possibly cocaine inside. K-9 Marko alerted at the driver’s door, and a search revealed 0.2 grams of crack cocaine on the passenger floor and six needles in the middle console. Eric Lee has previously been featured on Scoop: Memphis for charges including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

Eric Lee was arrested and charged with six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of disregarding a traffic signal, possession of crack cocaine, reckless driving, speeding, and violation of financial law. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
